Under general direction, the Engineering Manager oversees all activities and staff within the functional area of mechanical engineering and design. Significant latitude for discretion and independent judgement is given to the Engineering Manager in the selection of work methods to achieve established goals and for the efficient and timely execution of all mechanical engineering and design work required to complete projects on time, on budget, and to customer specifications.


  • Provide technical oversight and coordination of work through project coordination meetings and other means. Monitor progress against project schedules and recommend allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.

  • Check drawings prior to submitting to Sales Engineering Manager or General Manager for approval to release
  • Fulfill project management/customer liaison responsibilities for small projects that do not require the assignment of a fulltime project manager.
  • Participation in projects from concept through commissioning and sign off at customer site adhering to stage gate procedures adopted by the company.
  • Receive a partial concept from sales, review customer specifications, and proceed, with limited oversight, to complete a fully engineered solution that meets the budget, schedule, and specifications of the project.
  • Estimate resources and time needed to complete deliverables, then assign and monitor those resources to complete project deliverables according to schedules developed by project management.
  • Regularly measure and monitor the progress of projects to identify variances from the plan and make needed corrections to a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure quality design work by providing engineering guidance and best practices to direct reports.
  • Assist leadership team with identifying and executing research and development projects that will drive growth and a competitive advantage for the company.
  • Support technical selling process by participating in customer meetings to help identify manufacturing process layouts and solutions to customer problems.
  • Refine the existing engineering process and tools to better deliver clear and concise design packages and bills of material to downstream parties.
  • Support projects until completion, including on-site commissioning of equipment during manufacturing plant scheduled shutdowns.
  • Assist in commercial decisions between the customer and internal sales team to help identify change orders outside the scope of the original contract.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and review work, approve time off, and prepare and review employee performance evaluations
  • Complete resource planning for staff
  • Maintain employee morale while managing to high standards and refusing to accept substandard work
  • Provide regular performance feedback, both positive and negative. Be willing to engage in tough conversations.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to continuously grow and develop the skillsets of the engineering team
  • Foster and environment of continuous improvement in which the engineering team constantly learns and evolves from the accumulation of all team members’ experience.
  • Manage the team efficiently even when demands temporarily exceed capacity requiring prioritization of the most important objectives.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; mechanical or electrical preferred
  • 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience
  • 5 or more years of engineering management experience
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Ability to review and critique mechanical/electrical drawing packages, PLC ladder logic, and HMI programming preferred.
  • Paint application and fluid flow circulation experience preferred
  • Robotics integration experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Inventor required
  • Experience with EPLAN electrical engineering software preferred
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Thorough knowledge: advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters, and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
